2011vac10 Friday Harbor is the “biggest” town in the San Juan archipelago. It is the place to go for anything you need, from gas and ice to food and wine, from a quart of oil to an expert mechanic, they have everything a boater will need while cruising the islands.

That being said, Friday Harbor is much more than a place to re-stock your boat. There are many places to check out during your stay that are unique to Friday Harbor.

The San Juan Island Farmer’s Market is on Saturdays (10am-1pm) during the summer, they have a amazing selection of items that are produced in the islands. On Friday nights there is now an Art Market from 3pm to 7pm. Both events are held at the completely revitalized “Brickworks“.

IMAG1878 The Whale Museum is full of information about the history and current reality of our whale friends and is a great place to educate yourself on not only where they have been sighted but also the do’s and don’ts when you happen to have a sighting.

From June through September-ish the Port hosts the “Summer Music Concert Series”, they are free concerts at the waterfront park that usually features local musicians from the area. Concerts have been on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

The amount of great restaurants per-capita is outrageous! Happy Hour at The Place, fresh, local fare, even sushi and a Pizza/Chinese food joint?

Night life is abundant on the weekends, check out Herb’s and the Rumor Mill for starters.

While there is a new hospital we happen to know first hand that if you need to get to a major hospital quickly, between Friday Harbor EMS, the Inter-Island Medical Center and the Airlift Northwest folks… you are in very capable hands.

After you go exploring and gathering all that you came for, sit back and enjoy the harbor life. The sights and sounds down on the dock add to the charm of Friday Harbor. Say hello to Popeye the harbor seal and watch as the sea-planes take off and land in between the Washington State Ferry arrivals and departures. It’s a beautiful, busy place!
